Family Court of Australia
The Family Court of Australia is where Consent Orders are filed (for both children and property settlements) and also where applications are made about more complex matters.
Federal Circuit Court of Australia
This is where Divorces are filed and also where a majority of the applications to start proceedings for both children and property matters are filed.

This is as at 1 January 2017. The fees generally go up every 6 months so make sure you double check the fee list.
Free Legal Advice
Legal Aid Queensland (LAQ)
LAQ provides free legal advice to the community and can provide you with general legal advice regarding your matter and give you information as to how to access other sources information. LAW can be contacted on 1300 65 11 88 for the price of a local call.
The Family Relationships Advice Line
Able to provide you with general information about the family law system. The advice line is available 8 am to 8 pm, Monday to Friday, and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday (local time), except public holidays. Call 1800 050 321.
Townsville Community Legal Service (TCLS)
An independent, non-profit community organisation providing free legal services, referral, advice and assistance. TCLS can only provide you with general information regarding your matter and hold free advice nights each Thursday night between 6 pm to 8 pm (local time). Booking are essential as it is a very popular service. TCLS can be contacted on 07 4721 5511 to arrange an appointment. More information can be found on their website.
North Queensland Women’s Legal Services (NQWLS)
Provides free legal information to assist women in understanding and protecting their legal rights. The service aims to assist people to make informed choices and decisions about the options available to them. NQWLS has a 1800 advice line (1800 224 504) which operates each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 9 am and 1 pm. More information can be found on their website.
